Question in detailHaris Sohail joins Pakistan's CT squad as Umar Akmal's replacement. Akmal's injury could be a blow to Pakistan, but to Sohail it comes as an opportunity to prove his worth. Previously ousted for the West Indies tour due to fitness concerns, Pakistani middle-order batsman Umar Akmal has also failed to fix a spot for the Champions Trophy 2017. And the reason remains the same this time as well. After a fitness test conducted three days ago, Umar Akmal failed to prove fully fit for the CT 2017. And for this reason, he has been asked to return to Pakistan.
Pakistan squad for ICC Champions Trophy 2017 will miss Umar Akmal. PCB chairman said that they had no policy to carry unfit players, and so he decided to call him back. Also, he named Haris Sohail as Umar Akmal's replacement. In the upcoming Champions Trophy, Pakistan has been grouped alongside India, South Africa and Sri Lanka.
Sohail last featured his national ODI side in May 2015 against Zimbabwe in Lahore. Recently in Pakistan cup, he scored 236 runs in five games at an average of 47.20. His stellar performance made the selectors consider him as unfit Umar Akmal's replacement. The 28-year old batsman is now set to feature Pakistan squad for ICC Champions Trophy 2017. After being called up, Sohail is hopeful of living up to the selectors' expectations. With a change, Pakistan's CT 2017 squad is now as follows:
