Gautam Gambhir Selection Issue against New Zealand
Question in detailGautam Gambhir's selection issue against New Zealand is hitting the headlines these days. The Sandeep Patil-led selection panel is under fire for retaining Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan in the 15-man squad for the home Test-series against New Zealand. Another surprising decision from the selection committee is that they omitted the former opener Gautam Gambhir, whose current performance in the Duleep Trophy has been worth-considering. Selectors have given a chance to Dhawan over Gambhir. Cheteshwar Pujara is the only batsman who has been selected in the wake of his performance in the Duleep Trophy.
Gautam Gambhir's selection issue against New Zealand will remain in question as long as the series lasts. Sideling Gaugam Gambhir, who is undergoing tremendous form these days, seems quite unjustified. Despite hitting four consecutive fifties in the ongoing Duleep trophy, Gambhir is no more a batsman struggling for a chance in the team. Why? It's reportedly said that Dhawan and Rohit have found a place in the team for their good relations with the Test skipper Virat Kohli. However, the key reason why Gambhir is out is his IPL 2013 disputes with Kohli. With Gambhir turning 35 next month, there is possibly no hope that the southpaw will don Indian jersey again.
Is that why selectors sidelined Gautam Gambhir for home Test-series against New Zealand?
