Rohit and Shami Back in Indian squad for Champions Trophy
Question in detail
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced Indian squad for ICC Champions Trophy 2017, which is scheduled to be played in England from June 1. The naming of team, which was scheduled for April 25, suffered a little delay due to the wrangle between BCCI and ICC over revamped revenue share formula.
The 15-member squad sees the return of fit-again Rohit Sharma and Mohd. Shami. India gets the boost of Shami in the pace attack. Barring these two faces, the rest of the team remains the same as it was against England ODI series in January this year. Veteran opener Rohit Sharma, who suffered a thigh injury during England Test series last year, made an awaited comeback replacing KL Rahul in the opening slot.
Indian squad for ICC Champions Trophy 2017 features no new face, although Kuldeep Yadav was the name likely to be considered by the selectors. But, availability of Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin in the spin department made it just a speculation. With Yuvraj Singh and Kedar Jadhav coming up as handy spin options for Kohli, the selectors didn't shy away from sidelining Kuldeep.
The selection committee retained Manish Pandey, who was a part of the team but didn't play any match in England ODI series earlier this year. MS Dhoni, as ever, will be seen behind the wickets with gloves. The selectors reposed faith in the squad that emerged victorious in the home series against England. The Indian squad for ICC Champions Trophy 2017 is as:
Virat Kohli(c), Shikhar Dhawan, MS Dhoni (wk), Yuvraj Singh, Rohit Sharma, Manish Pandey, Kedar Jadhav, Ajinkya Rahane, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Ravichandran Ashwin, Umesh Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah.
Do you know who got a call up and who didn't for ICC Champions Trophy 2017?
