New Players in Gujarat Lions Squad in IPL Auction 2017
Question in detail
Gujarat Lions' final squad after IPL auction 2017: Suresh Raina-led Lions made some prudent purchases during the IPL auction in Bengaluru. And amongst a few impressive names sold to Gujarat is England's explosive opener Jason Roy. Roy was auctioned off at a whooping of 1 Crore, a price slightly lower than expected. Jason Roy is a welcome adding to the Lions' batting line-up, which already has some of the world's best power hitters like Brendon McCullum, Dwayne Bravo, Aaron Finch, Suresh Raina, Dwayne Smith, Ravindra Jadeja and James Faulkner.
Going all the more prudently, Lions refrained from pouring all their money on just one player or two like Pune Supergiants and Royal Challengers did. However at times, they seemed be to getting struck on some players like Mumbai Indian's Karan Sharma, RCB's Aniket Chaudhary and KXIP's Varun Aaron. Despite having an intense bidding war with the other franchises, Lions ended ticking the right boxes in IPL 2017 auction. They got the player they had aimed before the auction and that too at a rather moderate price. As Lions didn't bid big to make any unnecessary purchase, they appeared to have a clear mindset about their picks. New players in Gujarat Lions squad are: Jason Roy (1 Cr), Basil Thampy (85 Lakh), Nathu Singh (50 Lakh), Manpreet Gony (60 Lakhs), Munaf Patel (30 Lakh), Chirag Suri (10 Lakh), Tejas Singh Baroka (10 Lakhs), Shubham Agrawal (10 Lakh), Pratham Singh (10 Lakh), Shelly Shaurya (10 Lakh) and Aksh Deep Nath (10 Lakh).
While for many the auction came out to be an average vendue, in Bengaluru there were just a few to have a big payday too. The auction was a bit more nightmarish for those who couldn't find a bidder till the end. The players who won the jackpot in the auction are three Indians and three overseas players. Surprisingly, the highest-paid three Indians are uncapped.
In the fast bowling department, Gujarat Lions had just Praveen Kumar and Dhawal Kulkarni. Bowling was the one area where Gujaat needed a bit more improvement and so they went for some truly good options. Including the 11 new buys, Gujarat now has 27 players in their squad. Gujarat Lions' final squad after IPL auction 2017 is as follows:
Suresh Raina (c), Brendon McCullum, Jason Roy, Dwayne Smith, Ravindra Jadeja, James Faulkner, Aaron Finch, Dinesh Karthik, Dwayne Bravo, Praveen Kumar, Andrew Tye, Dhawal Kulkarni, Ishan Kishan, Shivil Kaushik, Shadab Jakati, Pradeep Sangwan, Jaydev Shah, Nathu Singh, Chirag Suri, Manpreet Gony, Aksh Deep Nath, Basil Thampy, Munaf Patel, Tejas Singh Baroka, Pratham Singh, Shubham Agrawal, Shelly Shaurya. This also includes new players in Gujarat Lions squad.
